Jolie Jacobus

My name is Jolie Jacobus, and I am from St. Charles, Illinois. I am an incoming junior at Iowa State University majoring in industrial engineering. My interest in engineering began in high school taking PLTW courses, through which I was introduced to Smith & Richardson during their 2017 MFG Day tour. Throughout my internship experience I have been able to learn about quality control, manufacturing processes, and modeling software. I am thankful to Smith & Richardson for the opportunity to learn more about the manufacturing industry and to build on my knowledge and skillset as a future engineer.

Connor Jaworski

My name is Connor Jaworski, and I am from Elgin. I am currently a rising senior at Marquette University studying Computer Engineering. I have always loved technology and its potential which led me to study engineering. I plan to attend graduate school and get my Master’s in Business Analytics or Finance to combine my knowledge of engineering and computer technology and apply it within a business setting. Here at Smith & Richardson, I am getting first-hand experience with machines, engineering, and other technical skills which will be extremely useful with my career path.

Joey Sommer

Hello, I am Joey Sommer. I will be a junior at Notre Dame this fall, and I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Engineering Corporate Practice. As a sophomore engineer at ND, I was fortunate to participate in two internships; one involving robotics and a second one which was part of a year-long project to create a community garden for a local neighborhood. I am so grateful for the opportunities and hands-on experiences that these internships offer. I grew up in St. Charles and graduated from St. Charles North High School in 2019, where I was involved in many activities including Peer Leadership, Student Council, and soccer. In my free time, I am still playing competitive soccer. I am especially thankful to work at Smith & Richardson as I have learned so much about metal working, quality control, and CNC machinery.

Bryce Thomas

Hello, my name is Bryce Thomas, and I am from Saint Charles. I heard about this internship at Smith & Richardson from one of my teachers and thought it would be a great way to get some real-world experience in the engineering field. From being a machine operator to working in shipping, this internship helped me learn about the entire manufacturing process. While I am not on the floor working, this summer I have been spending time together with friends and playing disc golf. I am thankful for this internship opportunity and can’t wait to see how this experience helps me in the future.

Caroline Thomas

Hi! My name is Caroline Thomas, and I am a recent graduate of Batavia High School. I am attending Purdue University in the fall where I am a member of the Honors College and studying engineering. Although I do not have my specific major selected, I hope to pursue a path in Computer, Chemical, or Mechanical engineering. My internship this summer at Smith & Richardson has taught me a lot about the importance of every step in the process of making a finished product or part. I have spent a lot of time in Quality Control and Engineering where I have become very comfortable with equipment, programs, and machines (initially brand new to me), that are essential pieces in these processes. I am actively learning new things every day at my internship that I know will contribute immensely to my future education and career.

Ohm Vyas

Hello, my name is Ohm Vyas, and I am from Geneva Illinois. I will be a sophomore this upcoming year at Bradley University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I enjoy the aspects of problem solving and enjoy being challenged to learn more and do more in school and at work.

My hobbies include 3D printing and being a state officer at Skills USA Illinois. I appreciate Smith & Richardson offering me an internship as a CNC Intern this summer and allowing me to learn and operate different CNCs.
