Introduction to S&R Internships

Smith and Richardson internships are a great way to dive into real world applications of STEM fields. For the first six weeks, interns rotate from department to department gaining basic knowledge through shadowing experiences. All interns begin their training in the quality department where parts are inspected. This process helps teach interns about the different parts that come through Smith and Richardson and the quality we want to see in our products. By the end of the Smith and Richardson internship, we hope you have a strong understanding of how our company functions.

Areas interns will be gaining experience in:

Quality

In the Quality Assurance Department interns will learn how to check tolerances on parts, perform in-process inspections, and put together material certifications.

Production

While in production, Interns will be out on the production floor shadowing machine operators and becoming familiar with the maintenance and operation of several machines.

Engineering

In the Engineering Department interns will learn SolidWorks and AutoCAD, learn about part quoting, and shadow engineers creating programs for the machines.

Special Projects

After spending time in each department, interns will be assigned various projects based on current needs and goals that have been established.
